Whoopi Goldberg

Gee, I'm so thankful to have watched cnn's segment from last Friday's episode of the The View. The link at cnn today is titled something like "Whoopi slams Kate Gosselin regarding Custody" so of course, I just had to watch it. My my my. I hadn't realized that pot-smoking advocate Whoopi Goldberg had such a passionate respect for upholding the law. I don't know what you all saw, but all I saw was a very sloppy looking, middle-aged frump in some sort of pool table covering finding it necessary to champion Jon's legal right to boink the babysitter in privacy. Seriously, I've certainly picked my own set of completely lame battles in my day (this GWOP crap being one of them) but never this lame. Either Whoopi is a complete idiot or the show's producers decided to throw the GWOPPER-mentality a bone. If Whoopi were a better actress, my bullshit detector might not have gone off. Even so, I tend to think Whoopi is an idiot. I get that she's trying to dress like them, but she's definitely not Plato or Socrates.

I'll also comment briefly on the cnn segment itself, which incredibly I found to be more vapid than The View itself. I didn't think that would be possible. Who were those other cnn people offering their editorial? Is there any particular reason why I would care what they think about anything? The whole point-counter-point format of this segment rang a tad hollow-- a la just a bunch of more bad acting to create the appearance of great controversy. The one woman -- the fat one -- was feigning such disgust over Kate's attempts to pursue a television career using "there are plenty of other women with 8 kids or more who don't need to be on TV" as the only basis for her argument. Huh? As long as were demanding that people justfy what they do, I'd like to understand why this woman (Jess Weiner?) chooses to be so fat when there are plenty of other women who are not. She should be skinnier for a smaller carbon footprint and so that I don't have to look at a fatso on TV.

I watched the entire show last night and yes, I agree that whoopi is an idiot but it has nothing to do with that segment. I didnt see it as her jumping on Kate as much as a lesson to her that she HAS to follow the rules, even if they are stupid rules and to be careful. I don't think Whoopi cares one way or the other about the whole Jon and Kate deal, but I do think that she cares about Kate enough to give her that warning for her own benefit. I've done the same thing in the corporate world. You have to play "the game". You just need to learn not to act with emotions but to be a better game player. And I believe that is what Whoopi was trying to show her. Once you master the art of "playing the game" you really are virtually unspotable. Especially someone with the drive that Kate has. She needs to use that to her advantage and stop making stupid mistakes.

Marissa said...

I agree with you Gamemaster. I think Whoopi could care less about the whole Jon and Kate ordeal. I, too, think she was teaching her how to play the game.

Gamemaster said...

I meant UNSTOPABLE, not unspotable. Sorry about that.

I had the feeling that when Kate was talking to Whoopi that there was something she was with-holding.

Whoopi seemed confused about how Kate knew anything about the babysitter. Kate paused and attributed it to "intuition."

My guess is that one of the twins may have called Kate about Jon's interaction with the babysitter in their presence and that Kate knew it would put it in perspective but did not want to betray her childrens' confidence.

Just an instinct.

I disagree, I think that Whoopi could care less about Jon or Kate and she thinks that she is all that and was just wanted to lecture and embarrass Kate. She looked ridiculous and she was just plain rude. The whole show is a train wreck, there are either people talking over each other or minutes of total silence. I do not know how anyone watches it everyday.

Anonymous said...

It was reported that one of the twins had alerted Kate to something going on that evening and that is why Kate asked if she could watch the kids. It was obvious that she was not going to throw her daughter under the bus and Whoopi, if she was listening, would have picked up on that...but no, Whoopi wanted to play the "hard reporter" like the View is some type of hard reporting news show and then she got impatient because Kate was not biting and then she began her lecturing, like Kate doesn't know the repercussions of her actions. Kate admitted she was wrong to go to the house, but Jon I am sure acted like a total ass, and Kate went into "Mommy" mode. Whoopi needs to retire or get on some medication.

Could you please post this where everyone can see so people don't get tricked into going into the wrong chat room. Maybe a small chat room post with your statement that you don't have anything to do with them followed by the links below.

Personally, unless it's an Iwhy endorsed chatroom (and as far as I can tell there is no such thing) I wouldn't risk going there. Who wants to be friends with haters? Sure the hell not me!

I am happy to wait patiently until Iwhy discovers a safe place for normal people to have conversations in real time.

The Unofficial GWOPWOP chat room (owner: anonymous): http://www.chatzy.com/171038863656 was started by a group of the "haters", like Jen D, from the GWOP chat room, thinking that they would be able to lure some sane people into a debate about over paper vs. plastic. Ah...You would not think that you could fine a handful of lonely women, spread across the country, that spend all day on the computer commiserating about their ailments and just talking stupid, but alas they do exist. I do not even think Sharla goes in there much anymore, she is letting the lunatics run the asylum.

I love coming here and completely agree with almost everything I read, but here comes the big ol' "but...." (pun intended).

The only problem I had with the Kate/Whoopi thing was that Kate kept claiming not to know Stephanie. Yet, there are pictures of her with Stephanie, I think they were all shucking corn.

So Kate was basically lying that she didn't know who she was. Or, trying to tell her side in a poor way, at the very least.

iwhyawli said...

This is the first I'm hearing of any such pictures.

In any case, it wouldn't matter to me if they were photographed enjoying a spa day together. You can never know the true measure of someone's character until they choose to reveal it.

When I hear people nitpick the meaning of the word "know" in the midst of a story about a "babysitter" who is boinking the not-yet ex-husband in the children's own home, I start to understand a little bit better how the world came to be such a complete fucking mess (with zero chance of recovery).

irked ileen said...

Doesn't it seem odd that Whoopie went on about breaking the law? I think that she was just giving Kate a platform to defend her actions. You know, mothers instinct to save her children, she had a feeling the babysitter was no good, etc.etc. She had to do it even thought it was wrong. The RadarOnline article had broken, now Kate could seem somewhat justified in her actions. Therefore, only reason they mentioned it was to make look better.

Here is that picture:

http://cdn.buzznet.com/media/jj1//2009/08/gosselin-corn/kate-gosselin-eats-corn-on-the-cob-03.jpg

That babysitter looks similar to Stephanie but it's not her. The girl in the picture has smooth pretty facial features and Stephanie has more, shall we say, distinct features.

iwhyawli said...

Dear irked ileen (I like your blogging name, btw):

Yes, I do find it odd. I have no idea why Whoopi decided to fly off the handle only to state the obvious. Nothing about Whoopi (her dumb name, her I'm-a-rebel-without-a-cause-and-don't-care-how-I-look, her often-stated fondess for the weed, etc.) conveys that she has any respect for or any intention to respect "laws" so I'm not sure why she's lecturing Kate on the perils on incarceration. I've read with great interest the other viewpoints offered here and also really admire the ability of other to give Whoopi the benefit of the doubt. However, if I had to bet, I'd still bet big $$$ that Whoopi was defending Jon's "right" to do whatever he damn well pleases. In the interest of full disclosure, however, I may feel this way only because Ted Danson makes my skin crawl.

iwhyawli said...

For anyone not understanding the Ted Danson reference. Whoopi is sorta like Hailey Glassman's role model.

www.wikipedia.com

Danson and his first wife, Randy Gosch, were married from 1970 to 1975. Danson's second wife was Casey Coates; the couple were married in 1977. In 1979, while giving birth to their first child, Coates suffered a stroke, and Danson spent several years caring for her and helping her recuperate. The couple later adopted a daughter. His 1993 divorce from her was one of Hollywood's costliest, costing Danson a massive $25 million.[citation needed]

He later married actress Mary Steenburgen, on October 7, 1995. He is stepfather to her daughter, Lilly, and son, Charles, with actor Malcolm McDowell.

In 1993, while he was still legally married to Coates, Danson became romantically involved with Whoopi Goldberg, his co-star in the film Made in America. Danson experienced substantial negative press attention after his appearance in blackface at a Friar's Club comedy roast in Goldberg's honor, as some guests were said to be angered by the monologue he delivered.[4] Whoopi Goldberg admitted to writing the skit with him.[5]

Question:

I have been over to the GWOP chatroom. I thought it was being run by Sharla but it seems to be run by someone named "Jen D." (xxx.25) and someone else named "peace" (xxx.200). A couple of really mean spirited cyber bully bitches.

Who are they? Do they own any blogs? Anyone have any backstory on these two?

boatgod said...

I just plain don't like her. And what's with her on that damn phone commercial? Who thought that would appeal to the demographic that would actually buy the phone? And who's that old guy? I recognized Jesse James. Oh yeah, sorry, Whoopi is an idiot!

I propose that there be a new poll about the GWOP Chat. It could be called "X GWOP Chatter", "X" being your favorite adjective. My favorite adjective to describe a GWOPPER is "bitchiest" but that's just me.

A thread could be created. We, loyal gwopwoppers, could have a few days to submit our nominations. Then you, iwhyawli, could have a list of names for a poll.

At the very least could a thread be created to allow us to swap stories about the GWOP chatroom?

Anonymous said...

we need a new Open Discussion Thread :)

I only pointed out Kate saying she didn't know the babysitter because *she* was the one who kept saying it. Over and over. Like she had no idea who this person is. She was the one that made it sound like that. It's not an argument about how "know" is interpreted, it's how Kate made it sound.

There is also a picture of Kate holding a fax with monetary figures on it, and Stephanie's name is on there, with how much money they were paying her. So Kate must have been a-okay writing her paycheck. She flipped because she heard that she was boinking her husband, it had nothing to do with "intuition".

And that is a picture of Stephanie. That, or the other picture of her taken that day holding her daughter is someone else entirely.

Again - for the record, the gwop without pity chatzy room is not a hater room created by Jen D. Obviously I'm not going to release my real name to satisfy that but I've given Iwhy some info in the past so maybe I can send her an email to verify that. other than that, any suggestions? The only reason I created it was so that the people here could chat that way.

Nothing personal but would you mind moving off the "intuition-gate" investigation? It's entirely unimportant whether Kate knew or didn't know the babysitter, whether she perceived a problem or heard it, whether she was stalking the house and looking in the windows or not. If you're going to impugn the character of a mother for wondering\worrying if her kids are living in a safe house for unwed prostitutes, you're completely whacked in the head.

Maybe gwopwop isn't the place for you. We're smarter than that here. Unlike Whoppi, we can see the forest through the trees.

Question: Why don't you start a chat, Iwhy? I think you are the only one here who isn't anon and can't be socked. Then everyone would know which one was really yours.

AMEN...

And...if the Chat Room was created for us sane people to use, then make it so, the room can be cleared, by anyone coming into it. Because so far, the only people that have gone in there to actually Chat...are the haters...

And...in regards to the GWOP Chat Room, Sharla created it, she was in there alot in the beginning, but now...not so much. And it's the same people in there...day and night...just yaking and yaking and yaking and yeah some of them think that they are the queens of the ant hill. And you would be amazed at how they all stroke each other, just to belong to that zoo. One of the chatters originally stated that she was neutral, like "Switzerland" and she told everyone how she posted on BM's site...and now she has even turned into one of them...NASTY...I guess that is what happens when your lonely and you want to belong. You drink their KOOLAID...Me, I rather go play bingo before I would sell my soul to those looney toons.

After looking at Stephanie Santoro on Google Images I stand corrected. It was Stephanie pictured shucking corn. Her pretty to ugly ratio seems to depend on the lighting of her nose and whether or not her face is directly looking at the camera or turned to the side. The slightest turn of the head and she is hideous. Wasn't there a Seinfeld episode about that?

iwhyawli said...

thanks to whoever posted the "shucking corn" picture.... I just viewed it now and have a teeny rhetorical question. Kate's nowhere in the picture so how exactly did we leap to Kate "knows" this woman?

Regarding the chatroom at the Gwoptard site..

Let's start with the fact that at any given time of any given day, the same people are there slobbering over one another and waiting to pounce on someone they disagree with/think is on the "other" side (idiots).

They fancy themselves to be really funny too. FYI, Gwoptardians, I know you read this so let me tell you up front, you aren't funny. In fact, you are the opposite of funny. You are sad and pathetic and need to get yourself away from the computer and get into real life.

Seriously. They talk about what they are making for dinner as they are making it, sitting there and chatting while dinner is burning. Yup, go figure.

Before you pounce on me people of Gwoptard land, I have been in your little chat area about seven times, for about 10 minutes each. I like going in there on a bad day because I am reminded that if I am having a rotten few hours, at least my ass isn't glued in a chair typing 24/7 in their woeful little world.

Anonymous said...

The corn shucking was part of the last episode when Kate had custody. They had gotten the corn from an Amish farmer and Kate later cooked it as part of dinner. The corn shucking happened before the cop calling so Kate definitely knew Stephanie. This means everyone is lying. Kate, Jon, Stephanie, and Stephanie's mom. They all have their own money making agendas, except for Jon. His prioritizes pussy over cash.

Anonymous said...

If you go to sosugary, you can see pictures of Kate handing bags of corn to Stephanie.

I'm flattered that you posted to me. Twice. I don't understand why my posts seemed to have a hit a nerve, I was just making a point, my feathers are far from ruffled. "intuition" gate? Srsly?

I've been coming here since day one and I'm a huge supporter of what you are doing. I didn't know making a passing comment that I thought it was strange Kate kept playing the "I didn't know her" card and me calling her out on it would be taken like this. I do take her side most of the time, I just thought this one time she was blatantly wrong.

Oh well. I still love coming here and reading posts, replies, etc. Keep up the good work. BTW, I post a lot on the Princess boards, so I'm sure you've seen some of my handiwork. ;)

iwhyawli said...

If you haven't all figured it out by now, I'm a complete jackass (although technically, I've never denied that) but perhaps I will earn some points back for being an honorable jackass. Looking back at my comments yesterday, I 100% over-reacted to the whole intuition-gate thing. It's really Whoopi Goldberg who I can't stand, not the various comments from anon@whatevertimethatwas that press my buttons.

To Anon@whatevertimethatwas, I apologize for yesterday's crabbiness. It's embarassing for me to re-read my comments, but I'll keep them there forever as my punishment.

I watched the Amish episode and I'll be damned if I can even remember anyone eating any corn. Clearly it happened and I have Alzheimers. I've now looked at all the varipus pictures and the two women do look very similar. They're almost identical big noses are very convincing. Perhaps Laura Linger really does have a shot with Jon.

If truth REALLY be told, I'm starting to realize (late to the game as usual) that the whole Kreider\Kamauf\Doherty\Gosselin\Glassman clan is Pennsylvania's version of the Jerry Springer show, but with less class and intelligence. And what we're truly watching is Kate desperately trying to remove herself and her kids from that whole um, "sub-culture"? Other than in movies like My Fair Lady or Pretty Woman, has anyone from the no-class pond scum pool ever sucessfully rescue themself to join polite society? Hmmmm. I wonder if this is the real reason why I remain interested in this whole saga.

anon@whatevertimeitwas said...

ARGH. Posted and it was eaten by the blogosphere.

Anyway, thanks for your post. It takes a mature, rational person to admit when they might not be right, something the Gwoppers seem to be lacking. Among other things like, oh, intelligence and an ability to exist in the real world.

Back to business. I am loving vodka-gate over there. Their levels of stupidty never cease to amaze me.

Anonymous said...

Could it be that there was more than one shucking event? Lets think about that notion.

Anonymous said...

I have to agree...I am sure that they ate corn many times over the summer...and I am not sure that it is Stephanie in those pictures, and I have been told that Jon does hire and pay some of his own babysitters.
